Hi! I'm Elisabeth

I founded Running Explained to help runners of all levels understand the how, what, and why of this incredible sport so we can get faster, run longer, and enjoy every step with smart, science-driven training. Growing up, I was always active in sports like swimming, cross-country, and downhill skiing, but running for the sake of running? That was never on my radar. It wasn’t until I was 29, after a long stretch of inactivity through college and my late twenties, that I found running. I had just gotten sober and set a simple goal: run a local 5k to "get in shape."

Six months later, I had not only run that 5k but also a 10k, a half marathon, and even a full marathon—finishing my first half in 1:56 and my first full in 4:05. It was a crash course in running, filled with lessons on what not to do, and it sparked the passion that drives the work I do today. Since then, I’ve run 6 marathons, countless 5k, 10k, and half marathons, and have achieved personal bests of 20:07 in the 5k, 1:36 in the half marathon, and 3:31 in the marathon, which was a Boston Qualifying time.

My training & coaching philosophy is about building a strong aerobic base, fostering consistency through smart training habits, and focusing on whole-athlete development. I believe in helping runners enjoy the process and find a way to make running fit into their lives, not the other way around. Whether you're looking to break the cycle of training burnout, run your first half or full marathon, or hit a specific time goal in races from 5k to marathons and even multi-race weekends, I'm here to help you every step of the way.
